The Power of “Doubt”

One thing silently mused by most Christians is some uncertainty about the Integrity of God’s Word. Many cover up for these weaknesses by engaging in very loud confessions about their convictions. But by and large, many Christians are not able to enjoy the fullness of God’s promises because of the Power of “Doubt”.

It is no more news that “The Just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4). But we might need to ponder to agree that the power of Doubt is as strong, virile and impactful as the Power of Faith. As a matter of fact, doubt seems quicker and surer in its results and action than Faith. What do I mean?

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. (Hebrews 11:1). From this scripture, we could make a subtle attempt to define Doubt. We could simply turn this scripture around into: Doubt is NOT being sure of what we hope for, and NOT certain of what we do not see. Does this ring a bell? When was the last time we “helped ourselves” in the face of the sure Promises of God?

Doubt is a thief, a delayer and a destroyer. Doubt (also known as unbelief) is most definitely a lethal Sin. As a matter of fact, Hell was prepared to deal with rebellious fallen spirits and unbelieving (doubtful) men. God detests people that dishonour what He has lifted above His name (Psalm 138:2). If the power of doubt could sink the once believing faithful and beloved Peter (Mathew 14:29), and destroy the most preferred chosen princes in the Wilderness (Numbers 14:28), then it’s worth discussing.

Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, be lifted up and thrown into the sea! AND DOES NOT doubt AT ALL in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him”. (Mark 11:23).

Clearly, it is implied here that no matter how much we scream our needs in tears, fast and pray, read the bible, confess all of the 365 promises, work through all the available church ranks, give to the poor and all other religious summersault, Doubt (NOT being certain about Gods word, even when we do NOT see) remains a self inflicted punishment. It causes contagious fear, discouragements, sorrows, and untold pains and mystery. Conversely, not doubting (Having Faith) always bear desired fruits.

The surge in the need for spiritual contractors, mediators and advocates today is traceable to the Power of Doubt. Doubt rubbishes Faith, makes none sense of confessions and turns fervent prayers into vain spiritual gymnastics. Just like Faith is birthed in the recreated human spirit, Doubt clinches tightly to the old man, waiting to unleash its evil against every good and faithful promise in the Word of God in our hearts.

But thank God, with Jesus, we are free from the Power of Doubt. “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith grows exceedingly.” 2 Thessalonians 1:3. What has God asked us to do? What has He promised us? We must seek assurances from the HolySpirit, Get confirmations from our shepherd and we must then put our confidence in God’s Word, without doubting HIM.

He NEVER fails. He won’t start with you either.
